Best Landscape Photographers in Oakland
For some artists, photographing landscapes is all about the natural setting itself and recreating it in all its glory. For others, the landscape serves as a backdrop for fashion and wedding portraits or is an integral part of environmental portraits.
In Oakland, you’ll find some of the country’s most talented photographers who have all found their unique way of incorporating landscapes into their work. From psyche-inspired scenes to fine art wedding photography, here are eight artists showing the diversity of the landscape photography genre.
B.K. Watson Photographie
California native, Brian Watson, began his photographic journey focusing on landscapes before adding portraits to his impressive portfolio. He says that he’s inspired by observing the natural environment around him and the people that live in it, whether he’s in his home state or traveling abroad. Through his landscape work, Brian strives to capture the essence of the scene, from the striking minimalism of the desert to the rugged beauty of California’s old-growth forests. He also has a mobile studio that he transports around the Bay Area to capture portraits for a diverse range of clients.

Sunyata Studios

While he majored in electronic media and documentary film, he also explored fine art film photography. Today, his work fuses photography and graphic design in the fields of product, fashion and portraiture, as well as event and landscape photography. It was while exploring the deserts of California that his landscape photography was elevated to new heights, with the artist discovering a passion for chasing clouds and the perfect lighting conditions. When he's not on the road, he’s working out of his 1,800-square-foot studio in West Oakland shooting artists, products, and local fashion labels.

Originally from Washington, D.C. and South Florida, she completed her Bachelor of Arts at Rice University in Houston. She’s particularly renowned for her series “Psychscapes”, which examines the intersection of landscape and psyche and “investigates the sublime expanse of land and sky romanticized in the still-potent mythology of Utopian California.” Terri’s work has been exhibited at venues that include the Berkeley Art Museum, the San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art, and the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, as well as being held in the collections of the City of San Francisco and the McEvoy Foundation for the Arts.
