Best Fine Art Photographers in Detroit
Detroit’s art scene is on the rise and fine art photography is no exception. The city is attracting creatives from near and far who are inspired by the city’s architecture, people, and streetscapes.
If you’re looking for fine art imagery for your home or office, you’ve come to the right place; here’s a list of the top fine art photographers in Detroit.
Noah Waldeck
Noah Waldeck is the founder and creator of Subjectively Objective, a contemporary photography gallery that showcases fine art imagery. Its main focus is on contemporary landscape and conceptual work that “embraces the inherent subjectivity in the photographic medium.”
Noah is also a talented photographer himself, with a portfolio of striking images that are often focused on Americana themes. Think polaroids of snowy streetscapes and scenes out of train windows, with muted tones giving his images an ethereal quality.
Another of Noah Waldeck’s experimental projects is Obscura Land, which is a collaborative initiative with Daniel Eller, a Detroit-based creative director, installation artist, filmmaker, and photographer. Their goal is to preserve the art form of physical photography.

Alicia Bock
Alicia Bock is a fine art photographer whose work has appeared in several TV shows (“Grey’s Anatomy” and “How I Met Your Mother”, to name just two), as well as in the “Sex and The City” movie.
She has traveled the world capturing engaging images that are transformed into wall art, postcards, and calendars. Much of Alicia’s work has a vintage feel, thanks to her use of film and polaroid cameras. Alicia has spent most of her life between Michigan and Florida and says that the element of water is one of her main influences.
Alanna St. Laurent
Detroit-based Alanna St. Laurent is a self-taught photographer who started her creative journey back in 2007. Four years later, she left her full-time job as an academic advisor to pursue her passion for photography and recently earned her FAA Part 107 Drone License.
Alanna is fascinated with abandoned spaces, architecture, and night scenes, which she transforms into stunning images. Detroit offers plenty of inspiration, with Alanna explaining: “the past calls to me, to capture these old, historically beautiful buildings that will never be built again.” Through her images, she documents their details, light and textures to create fine art photographs that are like no other.
Monte Nagler
Not only is Monte Nagler a fine art photographer but also a renowned writer, lecturer, and teacher of the craft. Initially working as a car designer, Monte’s passion for photography was ignited after attending a workshop with Ansel Adams in Yosemite National Park. He hasn’t looked back since. He has hosted classes and seminars around the world, and has written six photography books as well.
Monte’s fine art images can be found in private and public collections throughout the United States and Canada, and several have been recognized with international awards. In fact, he has even been honored by the State of Michigan Senate and House for his contributions to the realm of fine art photography.
Laura Adams
Laura Adams is a Michigan-based fine art photographer whose work focuses on horses. She has a knack for capturing the personality and grace of her equine subjects, with many of her images being featured in national equine publications or in the collections of horse owners who are looking for artworks outside the norm.
Not only does Laura hold degrees in photographic technology, visual arts, and liberal arts but she is a member of the American Society of Media Photographers. We particularly love her use of light, shadow, and blurring to reflect the unique characteristics of her beautiful subjects.
Jessica Bilbrey Photography
Jessica Bilbrey’s fine art photography focuses on families and babies, and she says that she has been interested in the craft since she was a child herself. She established her business in 2019 with a focus on lifestyle imagery and environmental portraiture, often using local parks or nurseries as a studio.
Jessica’s portfolio features monochrome images and muted tonal works in a style she describes as “timeless”. Part of the reason she is such a great fine art family photographer is her ability to connect with kids and create a safe space for them.
Gretchen Noelle
Fine art photographer Gretchen Noelle has been a dancer and gymnast since the age of three and became a professional dancer at 16. She completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a ballet specialization from Point Park University in Pittsburgh and worked as a freelance makeup artist in between performances as a Radio City Rockette.
It was while traveling the globe as a dancer that she discovered her interest in photography and really began immersing herself in the craft after giving birth to her son. Since that time, she has been constantly experimenting with new techniques while creating fine art dance images and heirloom artworks for families.
