“For my thirtieth birthday, I knew I wanted to throw a beautiful dinner party in honor of all the important people who helped guide me this far in life. After all, it’s wonderful to celebrate entering a new decade in our lives, but it’s also important to acknowledge those who helped get us there! I have my own event design company and spend my days making sure details for clients’ parties are beautiful and magical for all their guests. I felt it was time I spent that same effort to design a special event for all the incredible people in my own life. I came across the concept of “Le Diner En Blanc” and automatically fell in love with it. I loved the history and tradition behind it, knowing my guests would appreciate the beauty of it too. I am a huge believer in DIY and throughly enjoy making beautiful visions come to life. As soon as I decided on the theme, I began designing all the special elements for the party . I sent out the invitations and made sure to include the history of “Le Diner En Blanc” so guests understood the meaning behind the theme.
My husband and I built a dessert display from scratch, using wooden antique ladders, and creating a custom swing for the cake. The top of the display was covered in white Orchids, white Hydrangeas, and Amaranthus. I began designing everything from the covers around each guests’ white linen napkin to a giant wooden 30 covered in all white flowers and fairy lights. I designed a “Flower Bar,” so guests could bring a piece of the evening home with them. The bar displayed clear vases, with the “Le Diner En Blanc” history inside of them, and were filled with white Hydrangeas and Lisianthus flowers. I also created a DIY photo booth where I placed large paper flowers on a backdrop for guests to take pictures in front of. Along with family and friends, we put together each rectangular mirrored centerpiece, filling them with white roses and hydrangeas. We rented a clear tent so guests could see the stars at night and made sure to wrap each individual c hivari chair in white velvet to give the tent a more romantic feel.
To begin the night, guests entered our backyard to find their name and table number beautifully written on a large antique white mirror, lit by floating candles and hanging lanterns. Guests were then offered a glass of champagne at the Champagne Bar and were free to mingle. Once it was time for the dinner to commence, guests made their way to their table and found their personalized custom candle place card, indicating where to sit. We made sure to keep true to “Le Diner En Blanc” tradition by including the swinging the napkins before dinner! We ended the night with sparklers and dancing under the stars until the early morning hours!
It was truly a beautiful summer night and unforgettable birthday celebration, surrounded by the people I love most in my life!”
